Iwami Ginzan Kaido (Transportation Route) Tomogaura-do
This was the shortest transportation route from the Sakunouchi Area to the Sea of Japan, used in the early 16th century when silver and silver ore was shipped from the Tomogaura Port.
Starting from the Hataguchi and Yoshizakoguchi entrances on the mine side, this narrow, sloping 7km passage through the mountains is well preserved. Along the roadway are earthen bridges, the remains of the construction site of a cut earth road, stone monuments and Buddhist images erected for the safety of passersby, as well as places associated with legends concerning silver ore transport and route traffic.
