Iwami Ginzan Kaido (Transportation
Route) Yunotsu Okidomari-do
This route was used to transport silver and supplies in the late 16th century, when the Yunotsu Okidomari Port served as the administrative center for Iwami Ginzan and its outer port. Stretching over 12km, the route starts at Sakaneguchi on the mine side, passes over the steep slopes of Gourozaka and through Nishida, Shimizu and Matsuyama, before branching into routes for Yunotsu and Okidomari. Along the way are well-preserved stretches of stone pavement and earthen bridges, signposts and stone Buddhist images, as well as a Buddhist Kannon statue erected to ward off fire at Nishida and Shimizu Kanabishaku Springs.
