Iwami-jo Site
Iwami-jo Site, 5km northwest of the Sakunouchi Area, was built in the 16th century on a rocky mountain peak 153m above sea level. Strategically situated at the southern end of a plain near the Sea of Japan, it was a key stronghold for the defense of the Nima District. According to historical records, the fortress served as a military base for the Yu Clan, headed by a Lord from a neighboring district who had interests in the Yunotsu Port and Iwami Ginzan.
